Setting goals is easy. Creating goals that actually help teams focus, align, and make progress is much harder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the past weeks, I have been asked the same question several times:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do you create great goals?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this episode of Le Podcast on Emerging Leadership<\/em>, I explore this question through a very practical lens, using the OKRs approach (Objectives and Key Results)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond goal setting as a formality<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

OKRs are often introduced as a framework or a process to comply with. When that happens, goals quickly become disconnected from real work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this episode, I take a different approach: starting from impact<\/strong>, not from metrics or activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rather than asking \u201cwhat should we measure?\u201d, the real question becomes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • what impact do we want to create?<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • for whom?<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • and how will we know if we are making progress?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Using Impact Mapping to create meaningful OKRs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    To make this concrete, I use a simple example and the Impact Mapping<\/strong> approach to walk through the process of creating OKRs step by step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    We look at:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    • how objectives express intent and direction<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • how key results help teams learn, not just report<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • how to connect daily work to meaningful outcomes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      The goal is not to get the wording \u201cright\u201d, but to create goals that support better conversations and better decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      OKRs as a leadership practice<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      Used well, OKRs are not a management tool. They are a leadership practice<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      They help teams:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        \n
      • clarify what matters now<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • align without over-controlling<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • take responsibility for results rather than tasks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
