{"id":2674,"date":"2018-09-28T07:55:11","date_gmt":"2018-09-28T11:55:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog-alexis.monville.com\/en\/?p=2674"},"modified":"2018-09-28T07:55:11","modified_gmt":"2018-09-28T11:55:11","slug":"the-matrix-of-principles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog-alexis.monville.com\/en\/2018\/09\/28\/the-matrix-of-principles\/","title":{"rendered":"The Matrix of Principles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Matrix of Principles is a reflection tool to capture how stakeholders understand <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/W._Edwards_Deming#Key_principles\">Deming&#8217;s 14 Management Principles<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Reflecting on the management principles enables the team to share their beliefs on management, to share their views on where the organization is, and to identify areas for improvement.<\/p>\n<p>Follow the few steps below<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Take a blank sheet of paper, or use a whiteboard,<\/li>\n<li>Draw a 2&#215;2 matrix,<\/li>\n<li>The horizontal axis represents your agreement with the principle. On the right, you agree; on the left, you disagree,<\/li>\n<li>The vertical axis represents how the principle is applied to your organization. \u201cApplied\u201d at the top, \u201cnot applied\u201d at the bottom,<\/li>\n<li>You will now position Deming\u2019s 14 Management Principles by placing their numbers on a 2&#215;2 matrix. Each team member uses a different color.<\/li>\n<li>After placing each principle, the facilitator asks the outliers to explain their position.<\/li>\n<li>The facilitator asks the group if it inspires some ideas for the team.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>You can use the tool as a self-reflection one. As a facilitator, it is useful to try the exercise first by yourself to be able to pick the principles that will most resonate with your team.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>There is one assignment per chapter in the book <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodreads.com\/book\/show\/40692351-changing-your-team-from-the-inside\">Changing Your Team From The Inside<\/a>. The Matrix of Principles is the assignment from the chapter two.<\/p>\n<p>The practice is available in the <a href=\"https:\/\/openpracticelibrary.com\/practice\/the-matrix-of-principles\">Open Practice Library<\/a>.
