{"id":4538,"date":"2023-10-16T08:49:15","date_gmt":"2023-10-16T08:49:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iamincharge.club\/?page_id=435"},"modified":"2023-11-09T12:00:42","modified_gmt":"2023-11-09T17:00:42","slug":"the-best-possible-self","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blog-alexis.monville.com\/en\/books\/i-am-in-charge\/the-experiments\/the-best-possible-self\/","title":{"rendered":"The Best Possible Self"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is it?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Best Possible Self is an exercise to clarify your goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why use it?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Research shows that building optimism about the future motivates you to work toward that desired future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Steps<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>First prepare a visible calendar with five checkboxes representing the next five days. For each day that you accomplish the assignment, tick a box.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each day, take a moment to imagine your life in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What is the best possible life you can envision?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In all the different areas of your life, professional or personal, what will happen in your best possible future?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Write for at least five minutes, use the hot pen technique. Write what comes to your mind without editing (you can write longer if there is a lot of information coming to mind).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Be very specific in your write-up<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Describe a better future in which you are your best possible self, and what needs to change in your current situation, what you will learn, what habits you will change.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You will start the next day with a blank page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After five days, you may be tempted to continue the exercise because you feel that you can learn more from it. Please do and drop us a note to tell us what was the right duration for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some people find it useful to let a few days pass before reviewing their writings, when you are ready, review your writing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Are they different from day to day?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do you see key themes coming back over the days?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Can you write down the themes in the present tense?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>One last word, if you miss a day, don\u2019t be harsh on yourself. Guilt has a negative effect on our willpower.
